Zoho Enters IT Hardware Space with Its Own Indigenous Server Platform

Zoho has taken a major step beyond software by introducing its own indigenously designed and manufactured server platform. The initiative reflects the company’s long-term vision of building a complete technology ecosystem while reducing infrastructure costs and improving performance for AI-powered applications.

Zoho Develops Its Own Server Platform

The new server platform, named Nathu La, has been designed and assembled in India using locally manufactured components. Zoho collaborated with Intel India and Indian electronics manufacturing partners to develop key hardware components, including motherboards, firmware, network interface cards, secure control modules and server chassis.

The platform is intended primarily for Zoho’s own data centres in India and overseas, where around 1,000 servers have already been deployed.

Built to Support AI Workloads

Zoho’s custom servers are optimized to handle AI inference, virtualization, cloud services, CRM applications, email hosting and high-performance computing workloads. The company believes owning both hardware and software will help improve efficiency while lowering operational costs.

According to Zoho, the platform delivers 20–30% lower total cost of ownership (TCO) compared to traditional enterprise servers in several deployment scenarios.

Energy-Efficient and Cost-Effective Design

The company says its servers consume 12–18% less power, making them more energy-efficient while reducing infrastructure expenses. Zoho has also filed multiple patents related to thermal management and server architecture, highlighting its focus on innovation in hardware engineering.

Strengthening India’s Technology Ecosystem

Zoho established its hardware research and development team in Nagpur in 2020, investing in local talent to build advanced server technologies. The company believes this initiative will strengthen India’s hardware capabilities and reduce dependence on imported enterprise infrastructure.
